Dog Guards Missing Skier's Dead Body From Coyotes

SAN MIGUEL COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Four people survived a helicopter crash during a search and rescue mission of a cross-country skier who was later found dead.

The pilot and a sheriff's deputy and two other crew members survived after the helicopter they were in lost power and crashed at about approximately 10,000 feet.

They were searching for an 81-year-old man on Lizard Head Pass after the man and his golden retriever dog went missing overnight.

The man was found deceased at approximately 3/4 miles east of Highway 145 at the top of Lizard Head Pass. The man's dog, "Buddy," was guarding his body from coyotes in area.
