DNA Evidence Leads To Conviction In Cold Case Sex Assault From 2001
DENVER (AP) — The Denver district attorney's office says a man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman after a DNA sample taken when he was arrested on other charges more than a decade later linked him to the attack.
In a press release Friday, the district attorney said 46-year-old Eddie Simon is to be sentenced June 16. He could be sentenced to life.
Simon was convicted in a February, 2001 attack in which a 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at knife point in Denver. The victim escaped, but no suspect was identified at the time.
Last year, Simon was arrested on felony drug charges and a DNA sample was taken.
District Attorney Mitch Morrissey lauded the so-called Katie's Law on DNA evidence.
