District Attorney George Brauchler Considers Run For U.S. Senate

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- The prosecutor in the Aurora theater shooting trial is considering a run for the U.S. Senate to represent Colorado on Capitol Hill.

According to the Denver Post, 18th Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler says he is talking to political advisers and his family about a possible campaign.

Republican leaders are looking for a candidate to challenge Democratic incumbent Michael Bennet in next year's election.

Brauchler has been criticized for continuing with the months-long trial of gunman James Holmes to seek the death penalty when the jury returned with a life in prison without the possibility of parole sentence.
