Detective Injured In Shootout 'Continues To Show Improvement'
PARKER, Colo. (CBS4)- A Douglas County Sheriff's detective who was injured in a shootout last week continues to show improvement but remains in critical condition.
Detective Dan Brite was shot Friday after police responded to reports of a suicidal man near Dixon and Alpine Drive. Deputies shot and killed Randall Rodick, 40, when he fired at officers.
"He continues to show improvement, doctors are optimistic about his recovery but he remains in critical condition and by no means is he out of the woods yet," said Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jason Blanchard.
When law enforcement arrived at his home Sept. 2, police radio traffic indicated Rodick had access to weapons, may have been drunk, and suicidal.
Deputies say Rodick fired on them outside his home, striking Brite, and then fled in his RV, crashing it near Sierra Middle School where another deputy shot and killed him.
Through a GoFundMepage, Brite's family says they need prayers and financial support, as relatives continue to arrive to be by his side.
