Deputy Indicted On Assault Charges In Videotaped Kicking

BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) - An Adams County sheriff's deputy seen on video kicking a man who was being arrested outside a bar has been indicted on assault charges.

District Attorney Dave Young announced the grand jury indictment against deputy Jeffrey Stovall on Tuesday. He says the third-degree assault charge stems from a May 24 encounter outside Karley's bar. Surveillance video recorded on the man's cellphone shows other deputies holding him on the ground as Stovall kicks him.

The sheriff's office says it has placed Stovall on administrative leave. Stovall's attorney, Donald Sisson, says his client is not guilty, and he looks forward to defending the case in court.
