Deputies Search For Stolen Ammunition Suspect

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4)- The Arapahoe County Sheriff is searching for a man who stole thousands of rounds of ammunition from a Walmart store.

Investigators are hoping somebody recognizes the thief from the store surveillance video.

More than 2,000 rounds of ammunition were stolen from the Walmart in Oct. 2013. The suspect's journey through the store was captured on several surveillance cameras.

He took a total of 1,000 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition, 1,000 rounds of 7.62 caliber ammunition and 100 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said the man first walked into the store and takes a moment to pull his hat a little further over his eyes. Then he makes his way to the cabinet that holds the ammunition.

Once there he carefully and almost thoughtfully inspects the case, looks at it up close and finally, after more than a minute of browsing he opens it up. That's when he removes several boxes of ammunition in two trips. Sometimes he loads the boxes straight into a shopping cart.

He even comes back to the case and appears to wipe fingerprints from the glass after closing the case.

Eventually he leaves the store and drives out of the parking lot in a black, two-door convertible sports car.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes or recognizes the suspect in the surveillance video is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). You can text to CRIMES (274637) then title DMCS and enter your message or send an e-mail to metro-denvercrimestoppers.com.
