Deputies Detain Man, Confiscate Gun At Estes Park Motel

ESTES PARK, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say deputies have detained a man and confiscated a weapon at an Estes Park-area motel.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Department says deputies received a report Monday that a man in the Olympus Motor Lodge just east of Estes Park might be armed and suicidal.

Authorities described the man as cooperative after deputies contacted him. His name hasn't been released.

The motel was evacuated and a 10-mile section of U.S. 34 was closed as a precaution. The highway has been reopened.

U.S. 34 is the main route into Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park from the east.

A SWAT team and patrol officers responded.
