Departures to Denver International Airport grounded by FAA due to building thunderstorms
The Federal Aviation Administration on Friday afternoon ordered a ground stop for Denver International Airport due to weather conditions. All departures to Denver were grounded through 4:45 p.m.
Thunderstorms were building up east of Aurora and near the airport and they brought gusty winds.
Friday is a First Alert Weather Day due to the potential for severe weather.
Later on, the FAA ordered a ground delay, and that was set to be in effect until late Friday night. Departures to Denver were delayed on average by about 50 minutes.
