Denver's Clerk & Recorder Gives Valentines' Day Gift To Engaged Couples

DENVER (CBS4) - Love was in the air in downtown Denver for Valentine's Day, and to celebrate the city's clerk and recorder offered free marriage licenses on Fridays.

Denver's clerk and recorder expected a record breaking turnout of more than 100 couples -- of any sexual orientation -- to get hitched by the end of the day.

The special ceremony took some couples by surprise.

"This was completely on a whim. We were here last week to get the certificate and they told us to be ready to be on camera," a new husband said. "This has been a little overwhelming, but great at the same time."

The clerk and recorder also offered prizes to the newlyweds, including hotel stays and restaurant gift certificates.
