Denver Water Responds To Water Main Break In Centennial Neighborhood

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (CBS4) -- Denver Water responded to a water main break in a Centennial neighborhood Tuesday morning. The break is on Detroit Street near Irwin Place, southeast of Dry Creek and University Boulevard.

According to Denver Water, crews immediately shut off water in the 7600 block of South Detroit Street after a 12-inch cast-iron main line broke. About 20 homes were impacted.

Copter4 was also above the scene while crews were working on scene, and water could be seen filling the streets from the intersection with East Jamison Place north to the top of the neighborhood at the intersection with East Dry Creek Road.

As of 7:30 a.m., neighbors had not reported any property damages due to the main break, and there were no reports of injuries.

"It was just crazy because there is a lot of water coming out of this... the pipe, and it's a lot of water and I've never seen anything like that before," said 9-year-old Haylie Born.

"Pretty intense," said neighbor Warren Brown. "Just don't take anything for granted. We all think that everything is going to work just fine and things happen."

Denver water had parts of Detroit Street blocked in the area between Jamison Place and East Irwin Place.
