Denver Wants Drivers To Avoid Parking Tickets

DENVER (CBS4) - Most drivers are aware they'll get a ticket if a meter runs out or they ignore the "2-Hour" parking signs, but there are plenty of other violations Denver enforces even though they are not posted.

Denver Public Works estimates it writes 400 to 500 tickets a week for non-posted parking violations. That generates between $10,000 and $20,000 fines in a week.

Some of those non-posted violations include not parking close enough to the curb. When parallel parking, the vehicle should within 18 inches of the curb.

It's also illegal to park against the flow of traffic and it's illegal to park on a sidewalk.

Public Works wants to remind residents that they must park at least 10 feet away from a fire hydrant.

The agency says all of the laws are in place to ensure public safety and emergency access.
