Denver Students Celebrate 'Read Across America Day'

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver celebrated Read Across America Day in a big way on Monday.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Denver Public Schools Superintendent Tom Boasberg visited schools and read to students. It included a kindergarten class at the Expeditionary School.

"The more they read, the more they can open up the world to themselves," Hancock said. "More importantly, the more we can to do make sure they stay on track to be reading at grade level by third grade."

The annual Read Across America Day encourages all children to celebrate reading on March 2.

Modnay was also the birthday of Dr. Seuss author Theodore Geisel.
