Denver Religious Leaders Want ISIS Stopped
DENVER (AP) - The Catholic archbishop of Denver and other religious leaders in the city are asking President Obama to stop Iraqi militants threatening Christians in Iraq.
Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila and the leaders are set to sign a statement Monday asking the president to work through both diplomatic channels and "ethical intervention" to protect Christians as well as Jews and Muslims in the Middle East. The Peace, Love and Co-Existence initiative also calls on all religious leaders to advocate for the safety and the right to exist of for all Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities in the region.
They'll sign the document before an interfaith prayer service at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Monday evening.
The backers include Sheik Ahmen Nabhan of Masjid Al Salaam in Aurora and the leaders of several Eastern Christian churches.
