Denver Ranked 10th Best Sports City In America

DENVER (CBS4) - Only tenth-best?

Whether you cheer for the Broncos, the Avs, Nuggets, Rockies, Rapids, or any of the other dozens of professional and college teams we have, most everyone can find a sports team to love in Colorado.

So it's surprising, according to a study conducted by Wallethub.com, that Denver only ranks as the tenth-best sports city in the country.

The study compared 423 cities across more than 50 metrics related to the five largest sports in the country.

Based on the results, the top five best sports cities are New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Rounding out the top ten are Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Detroit, and St. Louis.

Of large cities, Colorado Springs came in at 44th, with Boulder (50) and Ft. Collins (62) ranking in the mid-sized cities, and Greeley (116) and Grand Junction (222) in small cities.

The study breaks down further not only into market size, but specific sports ranking.

Out of all football cities, Denver ranks sixth overall, as it does for hockey.

But when it comes to baseball, soccer, or basketball, forget about it.

Denver ranks a dismal 18th in soccer, 24th in baseball, and a distant 50th in basketball.

Green Bay is ranked as the top city for football, Los Angeles for basketball, New York for baseball, Detroit for hockey, and Orlando for soccer.
