Denver Public Works Truck Sinks Into Soft Ground

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Water had been working on a pipe leak Friday night near 1738 South Jasmine Street, patching small leaks on the old main.

A Denver Public Works truck drove over the temporary patch which had become saturated with moisture, and got stuck. The truck was sinking in the soft patch on Saturday morning.

A tow truck was called to the scene and the Denver Public Works truck was removed by 1 p.m. There were no injuries and the extent of damage to the truck is unknown.

Denver Water returned to the location to dig down to the pipe, and found a new leak on the old main right next to where they had worked on it last night. The 6-inch pipeline was installed in 1956, so crews will switch over to a new 6-inch main.

Ten taps in the neighborhood have not been switched to the new main, and they will be without water service for the afternoon. A temporary patch will once again be put over the ground.

A paving contractor will permanently patch the site by the end of the week and all ten taps should be switched over by Tuesday.
