Denver Public Schools' New Downtown Campus Named After Emily Griffith

DENVER (CBS4) – There's been plenty of progress on Denver Public Schools' new downtown campus.

The 13-story building is located at 1860 Lincoln Street and will be home to three schools -- the Emily Griffith Technical College and high school as well the Downtown Expeditionary School.

DPS is naming the entire campus after Emily Griffith, whom Superintendent Tom Boasberg called a visionary.

"Over a century ago opening the Opportunity School with the motto, 'This is for all who wish to learn,' " Boasberg said. "And we're extraordinary proud a century later to be continuing her legacy as an educational pioneer and opening this shared campus."

Griffith started her teaching career in 1895 as a substitute.

The first school to open on the new campus will be in April.
