Denver Police Warn Of Rising Honda Accord Thefts

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are warning some drivers of Hondas that they may be targeted by car thieves.

Police said the majority of Hondas being taken are 1990s models.

Denver overall has seen a decline in auto thefts but there is still concern about the increase of Hondas being stolen. During the months of May and June 2014, 156 Honda Civics and Accords were reported stolen, compared to 59 during the same timeframe in 2013.

Police warn drivers to consider taking theft prevention measures to reduce the possibility of their vehicle being stolen, including:

  • Installing a car alarm.
  • Fixing a lock device to the steering wheel, column or brake.
  • Ensuring car doors are locked.
  • Parking in well-lit or busy areas.
  • Don't leave keys and other valuables in your car.
  • Never leave a running car unattended.
