Denver Police Ticket Driver After Semi Hit Bridges

DENVER (CBS4) — Denver police have ticketed the driver of a semitrailer suspected of striking the bottom of three overpasses along Interstate 25.

Police say Michael Stollsteimer continued driving after hitting the bridges Thursday afternoon, causing traffic delays on the highway. Police cited Stollsteimer, 51, with careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to a police report, the load Stollsteimer was hauling on his trailer was too high. Authorities spent hours searching for the trailer before finding it Thursday night at a Commerce City parking lot.

Three lanes of I-25 were closed for nearly two hours before the 23rd Avenue bridge after the damage was discovered and concrete chunks had fallen onto the lanes below. No vehicles were damaged in the incident.

The trailer struck the bottom of bridges on 23rd Avenue and Speer Boulevard, and 20th Street and 84th Avenue. Bridge inspectors examined them after the collisions and said the structures are safe.
