Denver Police Search For Driver In Fatal Hit & Run

DENVER (CBS4) – Police were on the scene of a fatal hit and run accident just after 3 a.m. on Sunday.

It happened on Interstate 25 just south of Colfax Avenue where a vehicle struck a pedestrian and then took off.

Police says the pedestrian was actually struck by two vehicles in the northbound lanes and it was the first car that sped away.

The driver of the second car stopped and called police.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and police are searching for the driver of the first vehicle.

"At this point we don't know why the person was walking on I-25, but the person was found, we got a call there was someone walking on the highway. Subsequently when the police arrived we also got a second call about a man down. The police who arrived were there with him and he was pronounced dead at the scene," said Det. Mary McIver from Denver Police.
