Denver Police Recruits Get Incentive To Jump In Icy Water

DENVER (CBS4) – The Denver Police Department recruits are getting some incentive to jump into an icy pool of water.

The Daniels Fund donated $1,500 to sponsor the dozens of police recruits in this weekend's Special Olympics Polar Plunge and 5K run.

It's all part of the Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero Award. The Daniels Fund sponsored 42 Denver police recruits to participate in the events.

The event is Saturday at noon at Denver's City Park.

The Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero Award is named for Bill Daniels, a cable television pioneer in Denver known for his kindness and generosity to those in need. An aircraft carrier fighter pilot in World War II, Daniels honored those who placed their lives on the line in service to others.

The Award is presented by his legacy, the Daniels Fund, a foundation that provides grants and scholarships in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
