Denver Police Officers Cleared In Fatal Shooting Of Jessie Hernandez

DENVER (AP) — Two Denver police officers have been cleared in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl driving a stolen car in January.

District Attorney Mitch Morrissey announced Friday that the shooting of Jessie Hernandez was justified and Officers Gabriel Jordan and Daniel Greene would not face criminal charges.

Police have said the officers found Hernandez and four other teenagers inside the car in an alley.

Morrissey says the shooting was justified because Hernandez drove dangerously close to them, threatening one officer's life.

He says he understands that the shooting inflamed tensions in the community, and he hopes his letter explaining his decision will help people understand why no criminal charges are warranted.
