"There was an individual circling the park here, firing shots out of a vehicle," Division Chief Ron Thomas said in a news conference Friday at 7:45 p.m. "Officers arrived on scene very quickly and located the vehicle that was described by witnesses... on the east side of the park."

The officers determined the suspect had a handgun and ordered him to drop the weapon.
