Denver Officers Shoot Man In Stolen Vehicle Who They Say Produced Handgun

DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Park Hill Saturday night.

The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. According to police, an officer in an undercover car observed a suspicious vehicle near 28th Avenue and Forest Street and called for uniformed backup. It was determined the car was stolen during an armed carjacking that happened in Aurora earlier in the day.

"The stolen vehicle, a black 2008 Infiniti G37 occupied by three male suspects, turned northbound into the alley between Fairfax Street and Forest Street," police said in a statement. "The undercover officer then observed the stolen vehicle begin backing down the alley while a marked DPD car pulled into the south end of the alley, stopping some distance behind the stolen vehicle."

The stolen vehicle then backed into the marked police cruiser and the suspects began to exit the car.

"The suspect who exited the passenger side of the stolen vehicle produced a handgun from his waist area and started to bring the gun up towards officers," police said. "Two officers, feeling threatened for their lives and the lives of others, discharged their firearms striking the suspect, who then fled to the north end of the alley where he was taken into custody"
