Thieves Pry Door Open In Another Gun Store Robbery

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Investigators on Friday responded to the scene of another gun store burglary in the Denver metro area.

This crime happened at Machine Gun Tours in Lakewood, which is near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Union Street.

"This place did have bars on all their windows, it does have an alarm system and video surveillance. They are pretty well fortified for what they are doing," said Jefferson County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Jenny Fulton.

Authorities suspect two men were involved in the break-in. They pried open the front door to get inside. The store was in the process of upgrading the security but thieves hit before it was completed.

Thieves also used a Jeep that was possibly stolen to smash into a gun store in Littleton on Tuesday night.

"You could make it as secure as Fort Knox but people still have to run a business that makes some profit and even then you won't stop the truly determined thieves," said ATF spokeswoman Lisa Meiman.

Authorities so far haven't revealed how many weapons were taken at either location.

Machine Gun Tours has been targeted twice by thieves, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's office. A previous break-in took place last March.
