Denver Cutthroats Suspend Operations For Next Season

DENVER (CBS4) - Professional sports is a cutthroat business, just as Denver's farm team for the Colorado Avalanche found out.

The Denver Cutthroats minor league hockey team announced they will suspend operations for the upcoming season.

According to Mile High Sports, despite making it to the CHL finals last season, the Cutthroats saw a drop in attendance following their first season.

The team is hoping to secure more investors so they can return to play in 2015.

"We feel the Denver market remains a strong, viable area for minor league hockey, and has an ownership group that is passionate about making it work," CHL Commissioner Steve Ryan said in a statement. "We are confident that with time, they will return to the ice and re-establish themselves in the community for the years ahead."

Cutthroats players who were signed to contracts will become free agents immediately.
