Denver Curfew Active Enforcement Begins Friday
DENVER (CBS4) - April 1 marks the start of the Denver SafeNite Program and Safety Youth Programs by diversion officers and Denver police officers.
Denver's Curfew Ordinance prohibits youth from being in a public place or on public property from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday those hours are 12 a.m. to 5 a.m.
The exceptions are if the minor is:
- accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
- accompanied by an adult 18 or older who is in possession of written permission from the minor's parent
- in a car being used for interstate travel
- working or attending any official activity supervised by adults
The curfew is in place year round, but those who break it during the active enforcement period of April through September are taken to the Denver Juvenile Services Center, where their parents are contacted and a citation issued.
The Safety Youth Programs offer court diversion opportunities for youth 17 years of age and younger while the curfew is enforced.
