Auditor Says 'Denver Moves In The Slow Lane' About Becoming Bike Friendly

DENVER (CBS4) - The city auditor says Denver's plan to become more bike friendly is failing.

Denver Auditor Dennis Gallagher says the plan is not receiving enough funding and it's failing to meet key goals.

Denver Moves is a $119 million project to create more corridors for bicycle and pedestrian transit. But Gallagher says in the four years since it was developed the program has only received $2.8 million.

"Talk is cheap and apparently so is the funding of the plan," Gallagher said in a statement. "The mayor and city council have identified Denver Moves as one of the city's foremost priorities yet insufficient funding is resulting in a failure to meet the goal of an easy to use network for bicycle and pedestrian transportation."

Gallagher used the headline "Denver Moves in the Slow Lane" for his news release.

The audit made five recommendations to solve the problem that includes developing a realistic funding strategy to get more money for the project.
