Death In Denver Jail Ruled Suicide

DENVER (AP/CBS4) — Authorities say a 55-year-old inmate found dead in the downtown Denver jail took his own life.

The Denver Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim Tuesday as David Miller and said he died of asphyxia caused by hanging.

The Sheriff's Department says Miller was found in his cell early Monday.

Statement from Denver Sheriff Gary Wilson

"An inmate was found non-responsive in a cell at the Downtown Detention Center by a Sheriff Deputy at approximately 0530 hours this morning. The inmate was pronounced dead shortly after life-saving measures proved unsuccessful. The death appears to be a suicide; however, a criminal investigation is underway. The inmate was housed in the cell alone and the name is not being released at this time."
