Deadly Shooting In Lakewood: Suspect Arrested After Crash In Denver

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A deadly shooting in Lakewood sparked a police chase that ended with the suspects crashing in Denver. Lakewood police said a man and a woman were shot near West Colfax Avenue and Depew Street at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday. They were rushed to the hospital but doctors couldn't save the man, who was later identified as 21-year-old Roderick Vecchiarelli.

Police said the female victim, who was not identified, was in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police the suspects took off in a white hatchback. The car was spotted by Edgewater police, who gave chase. The driver crashed at Sheridan Boulevard and West 20th Avenue, near Sloan's Lake Park.

Police took two people into custody. One of those suspects, 36-year-old Danny Carter of Denver, has been arrested on suspicion of first degree murder and aggravated robbery.

Police said a woman who was in the vehicle with Carter is not being charged at this time.
