DA: Attempted Rape Suspect Asked Female Student For 'Math Help'
DENVER (CBS4) - A man police believe is responsible for a violent attack on the Auraria Campus has been formally charged.
According to the Denver District Attorney's Office, James Alphonso Holmes, 54, has been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree, criminal attempt to commit sexual assault, criminal attempt to commit assault in the first degree, and two counts of crime of violence.
The attack happened at midday on May 9 on the second floor of a classroom building.

"The charges allege that Holmes feigned needing math help from a female student and attempted to sexual assault her once she entered an empty classroom," the district attorney's office said in a statement.
The victim was able to fight herself free and run away, but there were no witnesses and no cameras in the hallway and police had to ask the public for help finding the suspect.
Holmes remains in custody on a $300,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in court on Friday for his second advisement.
