Cyclist Dies Near Independence Pass

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Authorities were trying to determine why a 51-year-old cyclist collapsed and died on Highway 82 a short distance from the summit of Independence Pass.

The Aspen Times reported that the cyclist was near the top of the 12,095-foot pass east of Aspen Saturday when he collapsed. Witnesses began CPR but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Identification of the man was being withheld pending notification of family.
