The group, Lark, beat out other prestigious schools such as Northeastern University, the University of Texas, and the Berklee College of Music last Friday.

"Under the direction of Dr. Erin Hackel, a professor of vocal music in the Music and Entertainment Industry Studies program in the College of Arts and Media, the ladies of Lark came up with a big win at their first national level competition," the university said in a statement.

Lark also won for the best rhythm section and was invited to perform in a professional showcase after the event.

"For an all-women's group to win a competition that includes mixed groups and all male groups is really unusual," said Hackel. "These women were determined to bring an artistic expression of feminism and femininity to the stage that was new. Pairing our vision with a rigorous rehearsal schedule and a lot of raw talent helped us take the win in Boston."

BOSS is a cappella festival held every year in Boston. "It's considered to be one of the best a cappella competitions in the country," according to CU Denver.
