CU, CSU Fans Must Leave Backpacks, Purses At Home For Football Games

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- No more backpacks, big purses, or diaper bags at University of Colorado or Colorado State University football games.

School officials in both Boulder and Fort Collins are taking the extra security measures to promote safety and speed up the entry process at games.

CU Boulder Police spokesperson Scott Pribble said it's a logical step.

"We can see exactly what you have. It's for our athletes, it's for our visitors as well, but it's also about speed. The fact that we can see in the bag from the outside, it makes it so you get through that process a little faster," said Pribble.

Students will need to bring their items in clear, plastic 12-inch by 6-inch bags. Students had different reactions to the policy change.

One girls is worried about how it will look, "Plastic bag, if it's pretty, if it's fashionable I can accept it."

At the sport store on the CU campus there are CU plastic bags for sale, including clear plastic purse that sells for $12 to $27.

Some students say they're not worried about the new policy, "I think it's a decent rule, it makes everything safer."

The student's mother agrees, "Check my bag, have everything be transparent. I want my son to be safe."

Other PAC-12 schools that have adopted the clear bag rule include UCLA, Arizona State, USC, Washington and Arizona.

The new rule didn't seem to dampen anyone's school spirit.

A CU freshman arriving on campus told CBS4, "I'm very excited about the first game."
