CU Chancellor To Address Social Issues In Speech

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - University of Colorado chancellor Phil DiStefano is planning to address social issues in his state of the campus speech on Tuesday.

The university is in the middle of a series of community discussions about how to make people feel welcome.

DiStefano says there will be special emphasis on improving the social climate as a key to ensuring student success because it has been the university's biggest challenge over the past year.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, there are also concerns because CU's Boulder and Denver campuses are being investigated by the U.S. Department of Education for potentially violating federal gender equity laws concerning sexual assault, sexual harassment and retaliation following a number of incidents and complaints on campus.
