CSU Fires Athletic Director Jack Graham
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4)- Colorado State University has fired Athletic Director Jack Graham.
The move comes in Graham's third year in the position at CSU. His firing comes amid a huge fundraising campaign as CSU tries to build a new stadium for the campus.
In a statement, CSU President Dr. Tony Frank said he appreciates Graham's energy "and his actions in hiring great coaches and staff."
But Frank also said "there have come to exist substantial differences in our views."
Frank said a national search will take place for a replacement.
Graham, a former Rams quarterback and a retired successful businessman, was hired Dec. 1, 2011, replacing Paul Kowalczyk. Graham had impressed Frank after approaching him about leading fundraising for an on-campus football stadium.
In the three years since, Graham hired football coach Jim McElwain, men's basketball coach Larry Eustachy and women's basketball coach Ryun Williams.
Graham said in a statement, "This announcement is surprising and deeply disturbing to me. I will personally miss the opportunity to continue to build on what we have accomplished during the past two-and-a-half years.
"We will miss the daily contact with colleagues in the Athletic Department, student-athletes and our coaches. These great people are the most rewarding part of the job."
John Morris, Graham's deputy since July 2012, was named interim athletic director.
