CSP Trooper Injured & Cadet Killed While Investigating Crash

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - While investigating a crash scene on Highway 66 in Longmont, a Colorado State Patrol cadet and trooper were struck by a vehicle.

The cadet, 21-year-old Taylor Thyfault, was riding along with the trooper, 37-year-old Clinton Rushing, as part of training.

A 2002 Honda Civic driven by a 27-year-old male failed to yield and drove into the scene of an ongoing crash investigation.

Rushing and Thyfault were outside of their vehicle at that time, and during attempts to use stop sticks the suspect vehicle hit the two CSP members.

Thyfault was pronounced dead at the scene and Rushing was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
