Crews Aggressively Fight Freeman Fire Burning Unchecked

EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Crews aggressively fought the Freeman Fire burning in Eagle County on Sunday. No structures were threatened.

The fire had burned nearly 300 acres as of Sunday morning with no containment.

There were three helicopters, four engines and 80 firefighters battling the blaze near Ruedi Dam.

The fire was reported about 3 p.m. Saturday and the campground at the east end of Ruedi Reservoir was voluntarily evacuated. Homes in the area received a pre-evacuation notice as a precautionary step.

The fire continues to burn nearly exclusively on Forest Service land. Fryingpan Road near the reservoir has been closed intermittently, but no long term closures have been planned.
