Crash Destroys Denver B-Cycle Station In Five Points

DENVER (CBS4) – A single-vehicle crash destroyed the Denver B-cycle station in the Five Points neighborhood early Saturday morning.

According to B-cycle executive director Nick Bohnenkamp, no bicyclists or pedestrians were injured after a driver crashed into the Denver B-cycle station located on the corner of Welton and 27th streets at approximately 5 a.m.

"The accident destroyed an 11-dock B-cycle station and eight bicycles owned by Denver B-cycle," Denver B-cycle said in a statement. "A cinder-block wall behind the station on private property was also destroyed."

The damage to the equipment was estimated at $40,000.

The driver was injured and taken to the hospital.

"Our thoughts are with the driver and we hope all is okay," Bohnenkamp said. "We are very grateful that nobody was checking out or returning a bicycle at the time or this could have been much worse."

The name of the driver hasn't been released but police are investigating the crash.

The B-cycle station will be out of service indefinitely until proper repairs and replacements can be made.
