Copper Mountain Extends Season After Snowstorm
SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Copper Mountain planned on closing Sunday, but has now pushed that date back a week thanks to the new snow.
It was retro day for end-of-season festivities on the mountain Sunday, and all riders were thrilled with the new powder.
"All of a sudden it was like Armageddon coming in! Just started dumping snow, it was snowing several inches an hour," said Stephanie Sweeney, Copper Mountain spokesperson.
The resort hosted the unique competition of a rail-jam, pond-skim combo. CBS4 took part in the judge's booth for the crowd favorite bikini contest.
But it was the powder on the slopes that had these late season riders most excited.
"Pretty epic," said one rider.
"A lot of powder, it's been great especially for spring conditions," said another.
While it may be great for the ski resorts of Summit County, the school district had to cancel classes Monday due to a teacher shortage -- the snowstorm made it difficult for many to return from spring break.
