Community Remembers Teen With Memorial Sign
DENVER (CBS4)- A community gathered on Friday afternoon to honor a teenager who died in a tragic crash earlier this summer.
Cole Sukle was riding a skateboard in a bike lane near Yale Avenue and Madison on July 13 when he was struck by a car. Police say 81-year-old Patricia Livingston had been drinking. Livingston was taken to the hospital but died 10 days after the crash.
A large crowd gathered including family, friends and classmates, to dedicate the memorial sign to honor the 14-year-old.
They released yellow balloons during the dedication. The memorial signs are a way to advocate for the families of victims of deadly crashes so their loved ones are not forgotten.
Friends hope the sign is a reminder for every driver to be safe and aware when getting behind the wheel of a car.
"I hope it helps people understand not to drink and drive and to listen to the speed limits because you don't have to wait for someone to die for the rules to be followed," said Cole's friend Rebecca Perez.
There are about 130 signs in the Denver metro area like the one dedicated to Cole on Friday.
