Commerce City Police Officers Begin Wearing Body Cameras

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - The Commerce City Police force has started wearing body cameras.
The department said it's an effort to improve transparency and public safety as well as document interactions between police and the public.
"The initial cost of the program for all of the equipment for the first year for storage and digital maintenance is approximately $150,000 and $100,000 a year each year going forward," said Commerce City Deputy Chief Police Dennis Moon.
Officers will wear the cameras on their chests and are required to record every interaction with the public.
The Commerce City City Council approved the cameras six months ago.
