Suspect Dies In Officer-Involved Shooting In Commerce City

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Commerce City investigated an officer-involved shooting in the 7100 block of Poplar Street. Officers rushed to the Highland Legends Apartments just after 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials say Denver Police and the Department of Corrections tried to arrest a fugitive of a violent crime. When officers contacted the suspect, he was reportedly armed with a handgun.

Police say multiple shots were fired.

"We are unclear to the details as of now, but what we understand is they identified the subject, a short foot pursuit ensued, and ultimately, shots were exchanged," said Clint Nichols, Chief of Commerce City Police.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male. He was hit multiple times and taken to a hospital where he later died.
