Columbine Shooting Victims Remembered 17 Years Later
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- The Columbine shooting victims were remembered on Wednesday, 17 years after the deadly shooting at the high school.
People visited the shooting memorial in Clement Park near Columbine High School where they placed flowers on the memorial.
Each year 13 white crosses are also placed in the park, one for each victim, 12 students and a teacher. Organizers say they hope the tragedy and the victims are never forgotten.
"We just kind of said, never forget and we've said we would do this every year as long as I physically can do it I will be here because I think it's really important," said Rhonda Grindle.
"I think it's kind of misrepresented somehow, especially in Colorado these days. It's like a lot of people are spending this day doing different things and I feel like I always want to take a second to remember what happened, because that's what I associate with this day," said Katy McAllister.
Nearly two dozen others were injured in the attacks. The gunmen took each other's lives.
