Colorado Woman Charged In Terror Investigation
DENVER (CBS4) - A Colorado woman has been charged in a terrorism investigation that may have ties to ISIS, the Sunni insurgent group.
Shannon Maureen Conley was stopped after she had been taking notes for several weeks at the Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada.
Court documents state she told members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force that she was Muslim convert and "If they think I'm a terrorist I'll give them something to think I am."
"It's kind of surprising in a way. I don't think you ever think someone has gone that far," said Faith Bible Chapel Senior Pastor George Morrison.
Conley was arrested and charged with conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.
That organization is the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria known as ISIS.
Conley told investigators she liked the idea of "Guerrilla Warfare because she could do it alone."
She was arrested after traveling to Denver International Airport where she had a ticket to travel to Turkey. Discovered in her luggage she had materials about Jihad and Al Qaeda.
She also had a number of CDs and DVDs labeled "Anwar Al-Awlaki" that were recovered. Al-Awlaki was the Colorado educated terror suspect assasinated by a U.S. drone missile in Yemen.
"She either wants to be or make a statement, but enough for them to take steps that they have taken," said Morrison.
