Colorado Will Receive $3 Million In DaVita Settlement

DENVER (CBS4) - Colorado will share in a multi-million dollar settlement with the dialysis clinic company DaVita.

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers said DaVita, which is headquartered in Denver, ran a scheme to illegally compensate doctors who sent patients to its dialysis clinics.

The state will receive more than $3 million of the $22 million settlement with five states.

The allegations against DaVita said that between March 1, 2005, and Feb. 1, 2014, the company pinpointed doctors who had a significant number of patients suffering from renal disease and offered them an opportunity to partner with DaVita on dialysis clinics -- to which patients would then be referred.
