Colorado Springs Park Helping Community Rebound 2 Years After Waldo Canyon Fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Two years after the state's most destructive wildfire burned 346 homes in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood, the community is still healing.

Helping is the planned renovation of a park that will include a new playground, pavilion and Waldo Canyon wildfire memorial. The city is breaking ground now on the project.

Nora Gledich, the memorial's chairperson, said it will "produce a reflective memorial, one that will represent gratitude towards all those that responded to our community when we were in need."

The project is expected to cost $225,000, entirely funded with donations.
