Colorado Senators React To Obama's Gitmo Closing Announcement

DENVER (CBS4)- Colorado's senators reacted to President Barack Obama's announcement to close the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and transfer the most detainees to a facility in the U.S.

The plan considers, but does not name, 13 different locations in the U.S., including seven existing prison facilities like Supermax in Colorado, South Carolina and Kansas.

Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet said he supports closing Gitmo but does not support the transfer of prisoners to Colorado. He says the military detainees should be held in military prisons.

Republican Sen. Cory Gardner said regardless of the futile proposal, transferring detainees to the U.S. is illegal and that Coloradans reject the idea.
