Colorado Senate Candidates Back Syria Provision
DENVER (AP) - Both of the candidates in Colorado's Senate race support legislation that would allow the Obama administration to train and arm Syrian rebels to fight the Islamic State.
Democratic Senator Mark Udall said Wednesday that he backs the provision in a broader budget package. And Republican Rep. Cory Gardner's office said the congressman will vote for the amendment on the floor of the House of Representatives Wednesday night.
Gardner has accused Udall of not taking seriously enough the threat posed by Islamic extremists who have seized parts of Syria and Iraq. But they are both supporting President Obama's plan to roll back the group's gains in the Middle East.
Colorado's Senate race is one of the closest and most expensive in the country.
