Colorado Remembers A Rare March Killer Tornado

DENVER (CBS4) - While March is mostly known for blizzards in Colorado, every now and then we can see an early start to the severe weather season.

Such was the case on Mar. 28, 2007, when a severe thunderstorm produced a rare, killer tornado in southeast Colorado.

The twister touched down just south of the small town of Holly around 8 p.m. without warning and moved north at 50 mph.

It was given a rating of EF-3 and damaged or destroyed over 200 structures.

The tornado was on the ground for 28 miles and traveled from Prowers County into Kiowa County.

Two people lost their lives as a result of the storm. They were the first tornado related deaths in Colorado since 1960.
