Colorado Recall Procedures Under Microscope

DENVER (AP) — Colorado Democrats want to scrub state election law to remove arcane provisions in the state's century-old recall elections law.

Republicans vow to fight the changes. They say Democrats want to change the rules after two of their own became the first senators in state history ousted in recall elections.

Is it a case of sour grapes? Or a needed upgrade to a dusty law written before modern voting procedures like mail-in ballots?

The bill promises to be a partisan battle when it hits the Senate floor Thursday morning.

Sponsoring Democrats say the flaws were exposed last year when former Sens. Angela Giron and John Morse were recalled by voters and replaced with Republicans. Both supported gun control measures opposed by the GOP.
